Svansele Dam Meadows is a nature reserve about 4 km Nortwest of Svansele. In the past, 95 acre of grass were cut by hand with a scythe , 150 small barns were filled this way. 1825 one of the farmers invented a way to highten and lower the water, in order to submerge the meadows and use ice and water for irrigation, fertilizing and cleaning of the area. This room shows the animals present in the area during the spring, especially the wide variety of birds that the beautiful landscape holds that time of year. Many are migratory birds that stay only a few weeks but the mammals and fish are here all year round. Along one of the walls a miniature of the fish filled, meanering “Petikån” river flows.
